Hi, I'm Katie Rhyne (she/her), the owner and massage therapist at Birch Family Massage.
I opened this massage studio in 2015 with the goal of serving people of all ages: adult clients, individuals in prenatal and postnatal stages, and children & teens. I love being part of your whole family's health and wellness care. Read all of my COVID info.
How did you get started in massage therapy?
It just clicked that this was the right thing for me! A friend of mine had started massage school, and the more she told me about it, the better it sounded. I visited the Oregon School of Massage and the program and atmosphere really appealed to me, so I took an introductory class. And the rest is history! I love helping my clients feel their best.
Your space is so cute! Did you build it for your business?
Yes, and the house as well! My husband and I are big "do-it-yourself" people, and we had a dream of building our own home as well as a studio for my business. With a lot of planning, time, and effort (and some help from a professional contractor for the really big parts of the job), we were able to complete both structures. It was an amazing learning experience, but I never want to see another bucket of drywall mud again.
What do you do in your spare time?
When I'm not giving massage or working on DIY projects, I love to spend time with family and friends, and I greatly look forward to traveling again. Pre-COVID, you'd probably find me at a trivia game night, or wine tasting at a local vineyard, but these days I like reading the latest fantasy recommendation from Hillsboro Public Library, or watching a superhero movie with my husband and son.
